Governor Brownback's Plan for Career & Technical Education

January 9, 2012 - Career and Technical educators and stakeholders joined Kansas Governor Sam Brownback for the announcement of his plan to boost the percentage of students who are career and college ready upon high school graduation. The plan, which proposes improvements to career and technical education (CTE) programs, is part of Governor Brownback's Road Map for Kansas commitments to excel in education.
On Dec. 14, Governor Brownback’s staff unveiled more details about their plan to overhaul the K-12 education funding formula. No proposed legislation has been released so the details of the plan are only what the Governor has made available in summary documents.

Geography Scholarship Available for Higher Education
K. John Cowan, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away in February 2010 after a battle with cancer. He attended high school at Topeka High School, and graduated from Kansas State University with his Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture; he also attended Graduate School in Architecture.
In remembrance of one of the Kansas Association of Mappers’ (KAM) most respected members, the John Cowan Memorial Scholarship was created for the purpose of assisting students of higher learning in their pursuit of a geographic-based education. John was passionate and outgoing about the importance of geographic knowledge, and this scholarship seeks to symbolically carry on John’s passion by providing financial assistance to those with a desire for a higher education in geography.
Application deadline is April 15.
